In February 2010 the East Midlands Koi Club brought us the first Winter Koi Show, a show that was widely respected and much appreciated as it allowed the koi kichi something to look forward to during the long off season that for many meant ponds being covered and fish being hidden away. In late 2014 the club announced that they wouldn't be staging a show in 2015, this news was treated with much dismay from all areas of the hobby but thankfully the South East Koi Club took up the mantle and decided to stage a Spring Koi Show, a few weeks later than the Winter Show was typically staged, to fill the gap left in the 2015 in the hope that the Winter Show would return again in 2016.
Like the Winter Show before it, the Spring show went down fantastically well with the visitors and hobbyists and many hoped it would return again in 2016 and remain a fixture in the calendar even though the SE had stated from the outset that they were only staging it in lieu of the winter show but with no word of a 2016 winter show from the EMKC many people started asking the question of the South East Koi Club once again, the question was answered on their Facebook page earlier this evening.
We’ve been asked if we are running a Spring Show in 2016. We aren’t. It was never our intention to. We ran the one in 2015 to fill a gap in the calendar caused by the cancellation of the Winter Show. At the time we were under the impression that the Winter Show would return some day. We still hope it does.
However, should you be looking for a 2016 date for your koi calendars; the South East’s next All England Show will be on the 24th and 25th of September
Whilst this has been met with understandable disappointment, due to the fact that without a show in Feb/March it is a long 9 months from October to June between the last and first shows of the season, it isn't surprising given the size, manpower and organisation required for the South East's existing All England Koi Show, it's a bit much to ask them to stage a second show each and every year.
So, the question remains, will another club decide to step up and stage a show at this time of the year, we hope so, and we'll let you know first if it happens.
